Diploma recognition, languages, experience: the key steps to practice outside Morocco.
Updated October 11, 2026
In short: many countries recruit internationally trained nurses, but no diploma gives an automatic right to practice outside the country where it was obtained. You almost always need to get your diploma recognized by the host country's authority, prove your language level and often show work experience. Here is an overview — always check with official bodies, as rules change.
Key tip: keep all your documents from day one — diploma, transcripts, detailed curriculum, placement certificates with hours. They are what your file will be assessed on.
A nursing diploma obtained outside the European Union does not allow you to practice directly in France. You need an authorization to practice from the French authorities, which may involve knowledge tests and compensation measures, or retraining in a French nursing school (IFSI), sometimes with exemptions. Fluent French is a major asset.
Nursing is regulated by province in Canada. In Quebec, the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) assesses internationally trained candidates, often with an integration placement or course. In most other provinces, assessment goes through the NNAS (National Nursing Assessment Service) and then the provincial regulator. French helps in Quebec, English elsewhere.
Germany actively recruits foreign healthcare workers. You need recognition (Anerkennung) of your diploma from the relevant state authority and a German level usually between B1 and B2. If there are training gaps, an adaptation period or exam may be required.
In the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Kuwait, you need a license from the relevant health authority (for example DHA in Dubai or SCFHS in Saudi Arabia), which often involves credential verification and a Prometric-type exam. Prior work experience is frequently required, and English is essential.
The General Nursing program (3 years) is the broadest and often the easiest to have assessed; Anesthesia & Critical Care Nursing adds a highly sought-after technical specialty. Institut Santinov supports its graduates' career entry, in Morocco and abroad.
It is possible but never automatic: you must have your diploma recognized by the host country's authority, prove your language level and often show work experience.
Common destinations include France, Canada (especially Quebec), Germany and the Gulf countries, each with its own recognition procedure.
French for France and Quebec, English for the rest of Canada and the Gulf, German (often B1 to B2) for Germany.
Your diploma, transcripts, detailed curriculum and placement certificates with hours: they are required to assess your diploma abroad.
