Studying Nursing After the Baccalaureate in Morocco: Public or Private?

Public institute by competitive exam or accredited private school: both paths explained.

Every year, many Moroccan high-school graduates wonder how to study nursing after the baccalaureate. There are two main paths: public institutes and accredited private schools. Here is how each works so you can choose with confidence.

The public path: ISPITS

The Higher Institutes of Nursing and Health Techniques (ISPITS), under the Ministry of Health, train nurses in several Moroccan cities. Admission is by competitive exam, usually limited to certain baccalaureate tracks, with a limited number of places. Requirements and dates change each year, so always check the official notice for the current year.

The private path: accredited paramedical schools

Accredited private schools, within Morocco's private vocational training system, offer 2- to 3-year programs. At Institut Santinov in Casablanca, admission is based on your application file (with a possible guidance interview), with the baccalaureate or baccalaureate level depending on the program:

  • General Nursing — 3 years, Specialized Technician diploma;
  • Anesthesia & Critical Care Nursing — 3 years, Specialized Technician diploma;
  • Auxiliary Nursing — 2 years, Technician diploma.

Public or private: key differences

  • Admission: selective exam in the public sector; application review in the private sector, open to more profiles.
  • Places: very limited in public institutes; more flexible in private schools, though still limited per class.
  • Cost: public training is free or nearly free; private schools charge tuition (ask each school).
  • Support: private schools often offer smaller classes, simulation labs and personal guidance.
  • Diploma: always check the school's accreditation and the exact diploma awarded.

What do nursing studies involve?

Whichever path you take, good nursing training combines theory (anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, nursing care), hands-on simulation and hospital placements throughout the program. At Institut Santinov, students also complete a final project and take French, English and IT classes.

Our advice

  • Sit the public exam if you are eligible, and pre-enroll in a private school at the same time so you don't lose a year.
  • Visit schools: facilities, simulation lab, placement partners.
  • Choose your program based on your goals: versatility, specialization in anesthesia and critical care, or a faster start to your career.
